We provide the expertise needed to handle the responsibilities and complexities of a decedent's estate administration. Professional expertise is particularly important to handle complex estates, which may take a year or more to settle. At death, we are entrusted to safeguard and preserve the assets of the estate and dispense them as quickly as is prudently possible in accordance with the decedent's estate plan.

As a personal representative, our responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Secure will or other estate planning documents
  • Arrange decedent services
  • Probate will and receive letters testamentary (appointment as personal representative/executor)
  • Identify, locate, secure and inventory assets
  • Manage liquid assets (stocks, bonds, funds) and special assets (real estate, personal property, businesses)
  • Collect income
  • File claims for life insurance, social security or other benefits
  • Post legal notices and settle or pay debts, claims , expenses and taxes
  • Obtain date of death values
  • File tax returns
  • Distribute personal effects
  • Sell (including auction) assets as appropriate
  • Pay legacies and bequests according to estate planning documents
  • Distribute remaining assets
  • Prepare and file the final accounting
